After a week on the trail, we reached the border of Kings Canyon, which meant Gracie and I had to split from the rest of the group. Kings Canyon demanded return visits. That helped convince Congress to establish Kings Canyon National Park in 1940. Kings Canyon marks the most difficult part of the JMT, clearing four passes around 12,000 feet high within 50 miles.
