Maine is now among the more than a dozen states suffering from an outbreak of diarrhea-causing parasite linked to iceberg lettuce.
As of Friday, there have been 27 cases of cyclospora in Maine, including 10 among people who ate iceberg lettuce directly associated with a nationwide recall, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Maine has now joined 15 states already suffering from the outbreak, according to The Associated Press, while cyclospora cases have been reported in 47 states overall, yet not all cases have been linked to the tainted iceberg lettuce.
On July 18, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration linked the outbreak to iceberg lettuce distributed by Taylor Farms in more than two dozen states.
That came after investigators initially tied the outbreak more narrowly to lettuce served at Taco Bell, the AP reported.
