Bangor International Airport will temporarily close its runway in September to make repairs to the pavement. The runway will be closed from 8 a.m. Sept. 21 through 3 p.m. Sept. 24. The airport is encouraging passengers with travel plans during that period to contact their airline for the latest flight information and any schedule changes. Airport staff discovered during a routine inspectio that an area of the runway required permanent repairs related to alkali-silica reaction, which can cause cracking and structural issues. “Addressing the issue now will preserve the long-term integrity of the runway, reduce the need for future temporary repairs and help ensure the continued safe and efficient operation of the airport,” the airport said in a statement.
