Israel formally rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s 15-point peace plan for Gaza on Sunday. In a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Israeli military would not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas undergoes “genuine disarmament, not fictitious disarmament,” which he defined as including “all weaponry.” Israel still controls more than half of Gaza and has killed more than 1,250 Palestinians during the nominal cease-fire, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Trump is hoping that intense economic pressure, rather than restarting major military operations, will be enough to force Tehran’s hand. However, both interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Russian President Vladimir Putin have expressed a desire to cooperate over the past 18 months of negotiations, with Sharaa visiting Moscow twice since taking power.
