A data center developer has moved forward with its plans to expand in Charlotte. To power the center, the Austin, Texas-based developer is funding a new substation on about 10 acres, which Duke Energy will own, build, and operate. Residents are not expected to see changes in cost or service related to the new substation, according to Digital Realty and Duke Energy. The Charlotte project comes amid Charlotte entering its third month of a 150-day moratorium on data center development and rezoning. Nearby cities such as Waxhaw have also considered putting data center construction on hold, according to the Observer.
