China’s Hainan has unveiled a ten-point policy package intended to build a globally competitive cruise industry and strengthen the island’s role as an international tourism center.
“Ten Measures to Accelerate the Development of Hainan’s Cruise Industry,” or “Sea Ten” were issued jointly by the Hainan Provincial Department of Transport, the Department of Culture and Tourism and the Hainan Maritime Safety Administration.
Hainan plans to deepen ties with cruise suppliers in Malaysia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand and Hong Kong to jointly design cross-border routes and products.
The first phase of the Sanya International Cruise Port, a new dedicated 100,000-ton berth, is due for completion in the first half of 2027.
They back cruise supply centers in Sanya and Yangpu, along with bonded bunker fuel facilities, and encourage domestic and international cruise companies to base regional headquarters on the island.
