GLP-1 drugs could be reshaping Scotland’s food and drink market as changing consumer habits prompt questions for businesses.
The Knowledge Bank, the insight team from the Scotland Food & Drink Partnership, has examined how GLP-1 medications are influencing what people buy and how they spend their money.
With 6% of Scots surveyed currently using medications including Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro, the findings could have implications for retailers, manufacturers, hospitality businesses and producers.
She said: “The impact of GLP-1 medications is still emerging, but the early signs suggest that this is more than a conversation about weight loss.”
Almost half also reported spending more on clothing, which researchers said could reflect physical changes associated with sustained weight loss.
