The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Technical Committee named Moroccan defender Nouhaila Benzina Player of the Match following the Atlas Lionesses’ 2-1 win over South Africa in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Benzina delivered a strong defensive performance to help Morocco secure a place in the semifinal and qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Morocco took the lead in the 31st minute when Sakina Ouzraoui converted a cross from Hanane Ait El Haj. Ait El Haj then doubled the lead from the penalty spot in the 52nd minute. Benzina, who has formed a strong central defensive partnership with Maryem Atiq since Morocco’s opening game against Kenya, played a key role in keeping South Africa’s attack under control, particularly in the second half.
