A majority of Americans support tougher government regulation of social media companies, including requiring age-verification tools to keep children under 16 off social media platforms, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll. The online survey of 4,505 American adults, conducted over six days ending August 3, found that 61% of respondents favor stronger government oversight of social media companies. The poll also found that 66% of Americans back laws requiring social media companies to use age-verification tools to keep children under 16 off their platforms. Despite those concerns, Americans continue to view social media positively. Seventy percent said using social media is enjoyable, while 35% said it causes them stress.
