The Burton City Council on Tuesday will potentially adopt subdivision regulations and propose a higher property tax rate. A public hearing will be held to receive comments on the proposed subdivision ordinance before taking a vote on whether to approve the ordinance, which has been the subject of long-running discussion between councilmembers and the public. A subdivision ordinance committee was created last summer to review regulations of similar-size towns and provide recommendations on the types of land use regulations that would best fit Burton. Also at Tuesday’s meeting, councilmembers will look to propose a property tax rate of $0.4200 per $100 valuation, made up of $0.0900 for maintenance and operations (M&O) and $0.3300 for interest and sinking (I&S). The rate would be over 8 cents more than the existing tax rate of $0.3363, which consists of $0.43823 for M&O and $0.292477 for I&S.
