‘One Night Only’ provides fun rom-com energy, bizarre premise

“One Night Only,” the latest romantic comedy from director Will Gluck (“Anyone but You”), builds itself around a premise so absurd that the questions it raises immediately threaten to overtake the “rom-com” aspect of the film.
Luckily for “One Night Only,” the most important aspect of a successful rom-com, two appealing leads with genuine chemistry, presents itself strongly.
Gluck, an established rom-com director, also demonstrates a strong understanding of the genre’s visual and tonal conventions.
Ultimately, “One Night Only” succeeds as a pleasant, occasionally funny romantic comedy, largely because Turner and Barbaro prove an incredibly fun pair to watch on screen.
Perhaps the only way for a studio romantic comedy to get greenlit in 2026 is to include such a premise.
