BLOOD donations have been steadily decreasing since 2023, new figures have revealed – but the Health Department has said there is enough supply to cover the demand. In the first half of 2026, there were 826 blood donations, putting the Island on track for 1,652 donations in total this year. But as medical science improves, the requirement for blood donations has dropped as doctors are able to use other techniques such as keyhole surgeries. She added: “Although there has been a decline in blood donors in recent years this has not resulted in a shortage in blood and we have enough supplies. “Medical advances also means that there is a move towards single unit transfusions, so patients who require a transfusion require less blood than previously.
