ISLANDERS are being urged to give large flocks of gulls resting on St Ouen’s Bay some space as they prepare to continue their journeys south. Jersey Birding issued the plea after large numbers of the birds were spotted congregating on the beach. The group explained that many of the gulls spend their days – and sometimes several days – feeding offshore before coming onto the sand to rest and conserve their energy. According to the group, around 99% of the gulls are migrants which stop in Jersey for only a day or two to feed and rest rather than remaining as resident birds. Jersey Birding added: “Please just make that little effort to leave them alone and give them that bit of space they need to replenish their energy levels.”
