The Allen Parish Police Jury agreed to postpone major repairs to Carpenters Bridge Road until next year after discussing the project’s estimated cost and the limited funds remaining in the current road budget.
Dillehay said he would prefer to maintain at least a $20,000 reserve and recommended against beginning the road project this year.
Before moving forward, Police Juror Joe Perkins recommended that officials meet with residents who live along Carpenters Bridge Road to discuss the proposed improvements, explain the anticipated costs and gather public input.
Officials estimated the project could cost roughly $270,000, including machine rental, roadway grinding and additional gravel needed to restore the surface.
They also expressed confidence that parish road crews could perform much of the work once funding is available.
