The transfer of the Arkadia Foodstore supermarket chain to Azzopardi Group is set to be concluded “in the coming days”, according to the seller, Mizzi Organisation. The Business Picture reported on the sale of the supermarket chain to Azzopardi Group last month. Monday’s statement confirmed that the business was being sold to Azzopardi Group subsidiary Malta Retailing Ltd, which also operates the SPAR franchise in Malta. The transfer represents a significant expansion of Azzopardi Group’s grocery retailing activities, which also includes its Miracle Foods brand. It is unclear whether Azzopardi Group will continue to operate the outlets under the Arkadia brand or consolidate them under its other brands.
