MAPLE Ridge RCMP say they are assisting the BC Conservation Officer Service (COS) after an incident involving an aggressive bear and a child occurred earlier today in Maple Ridge. On Sunday, August 9 at approximately 11:30 a.m., Maple Ridge RCMP responded to a report of three-year-old child being attacked by a bear outside her family’s residence in the 12300 block of 240 Street. BC Conservation Officers soon arrived on scene and were assisted by RCMP officers with attempts to re-locate the animal as well as advise residents to remain in their homes. BC Conservation Officers continue to make assessments and evaluations to track the bear and have the lead on acquiring the aggressive animal. While wildlife encounters are not uncommon in Maple Ridge, officials remind residents to stay vigilant and use precaution around all types of wildlife.
