Heavy rainfall in Delhi, Haryana and eastern Rajasthan over the past week has helped reduce the rain deficit in these regions. During this period, India’s overall rainfall deficit narrowed by one percentage point, dropping from 12% on August 2 to 11% on August 9. Several states, such as Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Andhra Pradesh, continue to experience less rain than normal. As of Sunday, 12 states were reporting a large rainfall deficit of 20% or more. Region-wise, the eastern and northeastern parts of India have recorded the largest cumulative rainfall deficit at 25%.
