Thirteen cars derailed from a CSX train Saturday afternoon between Veazie and the Penobscot County Country Club, according to the Orono Fire Department. Crews were dispatched at approximately 4:35 p.m. and, after setting up a command post at the golf club, they located the front of the train 1.2 miles north of the Veazie and Main Street crossing. Of the 32 cars in the train, 13 derailed. The remote location of the train and Saturday’s heat and humidity provided a challenge for crews, according to the fire department, but no injuries were reported. DEP will work with CSX on cleanup in the coming days, officials said.
