The bottled water debateDear Editor,As a public analyst and tourism writer, I have been speaking with citizens regarding the government’s introduction of a locally produced bottled water brand. At the same time, it is important to acknowledge that the Guyana Water Incorporated has made measurable progress in improving water quality and expanding its infrastructure, and those achievements deserve recognition. Another concern expressed by members of the public is the possible impact on small businesses that import and distribute bottled water. From a tourism perspective, the availability of quality local products is an important part of the visitor experience. A well-produced, locally branded bottled water could become another symbol of Guyanese quality and hospitality while supporting the country’s growing reputation as an emerging destination for investment and tourism.
