Chief Magistrate sets September dates for Mohameds’ extradition case following CCJ ruling(Kaieteur News) Extradition committal proceedings against Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed and his father, Nazar Mohamed, are set to resume in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on 3rd,4th,7th,8th,9th and 10th September. Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman scheduled the September hearing dates following a ruling by the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) on 29th July, 2026, which dismissed the father-and-son duo’s appeal and lifted a five-month interim stay that had paused the proceedings since March. The following day, Home Affairs Minister Oneidge Walrond issued the Authority to Proceed (ATP) enabling Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman to issue arrest warrants and launch committal proceedings. On 25th March, 2026, the CCJ granted an emergency interim stay while agreeing to treat the special leave application as the substantive appeal. By lifting the interim stay, the CCJ cleared the path for Chief Magistrate Latchman to proceed with the committal hearings to determine whether the extradition request meets the statutory standards to commit the two to stand trial in the United States.
