Mail-in participation, in-person traffic reflect low enthusiasm

Voters cast their vote at Honolulu Hale on the last day of the Primary Election, Saturday, Aug. 8, 2026, in Honolulu.
As voters continued to walk in and out of Honolulu Hale on Saturday, Honolulu Election Administrator Rex Quidilla said, “It’s going to be a light day overall.”
Longtime Republican voters Frank Terlep, 82, of Kalihi and his friend Kenneth Wong, 75, also of Kalihi, carpooled to Honolulu Hale.
A work event near Honolulu Hale provided her the opportunity to fill out her mail-in ballot in advance and simply put it in a drop box.
She brings her mail-in ballot in person and on Election Day out of habit, and “doing my duty as a citizen.”
