Candidate for Honolulu City Council Trevor Ozawa held his election night party at J. Dolan’s in Kahala on Saturday. Trevor Ozawa, a former Honolulu City Council member who successfully sued Council Chair Tommy Waters over his eligibility to be on the ballot, was the top vote-getter by far in East Oahu’s controversial District 4 race Saturday. Waters, who has represented District 4 since 2019, was disqualified from seeking a third consecutive term after Ozawa challenged his eligibility in court. The treatment of Waters’ votes, however, could affect whether an eligible candidate reaches the 50% threshold. Still, Collins said that Waters’ appeal to regain a foothold in the Council could take months to work through the state courts.
