The leading at-large trustee candidates for the Office of Hawaiian Affairs in Saturday’s primary election were mostly current incumbents with widespread name recognition. The candidates for the Maui and Oahu trustee races go straight to general election in November because only two have filed for each seat. He noted that Oahu voters helped Anderson pull ahead of Souza and to third place in the early results. Some non-Hawaiian voters do not feel they should vote for OHA candidates, while others are not sure who to vote for. On Maui, incumbent Carmen Hulu Lindsey, who has been the Maui trustee since 2012, faces opponent Jonah Ke‘eaumoku Kapu.
