Could Sleeping Too Long Signal Alzheimer’s Risk?
[]
Knowridge Science Report
A new study from UT Health San Antonio suggests that regularly sleeping for very long periods could be linked with biological changes associated with Alzheimer’s disease.
Participants reported how long they usually slept, and blood samples were tested for proteins linked with Alzheimer’s disease and nerve cell damage.
Alzheimer’s disease accounts for most dementia cases worldwide and places a major burden on families and healthcare systems.
While it does not show that sleeping longer causes Alzheimer’s disease, it suggests that persistent long sleep could be an early behavioral marker of underlying disease processes.
