Bally’s is slowing the pace of construction on parts of its permanent casino project in Chicago’s River West neighborhood amid a dispute with the city of Chicago over a possible expansion of video gambling terminals.
The company told NBC Chicago on Sunday it notified the Chicago Community Builders Collective it is resetting the pace of construction on elements of the casino complex.
Despite temporarily scaling back construction activity, the opening of the permanent casino remains set for early 2027, with Bally’s saying it intends to fully honor the Host Community Agreement.
“…We do not take this lightly because of the potential impact on many of the 1,500 union trades people who have been working hard to build Bally’s Chicago…” Bally’s said in a statement.
Construction began in August 2024, and in May, work reached a major milestone as Bally’s marked the placement of the final steel beam for the permanent casino.
