The Chicago area was hit by heavy rain on Sunday afternoon as the first of two waves of strong-to-severe thunderstorms swept through the region. According to the National Weather Service, flood advisories are in effect for parts of McHenry, Lake, DuPage and Cook counties as rainfall rates of nearly 1.5 inches per hour were reported in affected areas. The National Weather Service has reported flooding on roadways in Itasca, where multiple stranded vehciles have been reported. In Chicago, flooding was reported in a lane of the inbound Eisenhower Expressway near Cicero, according to Total Traffic.
