Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel will not accept the Peace Council’s 15-point plan for the Gaza Strip, insisting that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will remain in place until Hamas undergoes genuine disarmament.
Netanyahu told the Cabinet that Israel and the United States were discussing proposals concerning Gaza but said Jerusalem would not agree to measures that contradict its demands regarding Hamas’ weapons.
“The IDF will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed,” Netanyahu said.
He said Israel was seeking the actual removal of Hamas’ weapons rather than a process that amounts to what he described as fictitious disarmament.
A security official questioned whether the proposed multinational force would have sufficient personnel to assume that role.
