WORCESTERSHIRE on Demand celebrates five years of success, recording a total of 211,108 passenger trips since the pilot scheme launched in 2021, writes Niamh Cassidy.
The transport solution was organised in partnership with Worcestershire County Council and local operators, to address the needs of local communities.
Tom Wells, cabinet member for highways and transport at Worcestershire County Council said: “What began as a pilot has developed into a trusted and well-used transport option for communities across Worcestershire.
The on-demand bus offers an affordable alternative to increasingly expensive public transport, capping each journey at £2.50, with under-5-year-olds travelling free and concession passes accepted.
The demand is clear, with 24,000 downloads of the app, as it has now become an important part of the county’s public transport network, helping people travel more easily and conveniently.
