Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh is set to launch a landmark Smart LED Streetlighting Project, described as the first initiative of its kind in the country since the launch of the Street Lighting National Programme (SLNP) nearly a decade ago. The project aims to accelerate energy efficiency, reduce municipal energy expenditure, and promote sustainable urban development. The initial phase will cover 7.5 lakh lights, while another three lakh lights will be included under the extended scope. EESL estimates that the project will reduce electricity consumption by around 20 per cent, with annual deemed energy savings of approximately 19.57 million units for the initial 7.5 lakh lights. It is also expected to lower carbon emissions, electricity expenditure, and maintenance costs while improving service reliability and public safety.
