Vijayawada: An awareness programme on the importance of reading books was organised at the Tagore Library on Mahatma Gandhi Road here on Sunday to mark National Book Lovers Day. Speaking on the occasion, Grade I Librarian Ramadevi said books were among the best friends a person could have and that regular reading helped enhance knowledge, thinking ability, creativity and personality development. She urged students to develop the habit of reading by setting aside at least some time every day for books. Regular reading, she said, provides an opportunity to understand society, history, culture, science and the world around us. Ramadevi encouraged students to make reading a regular part of their daily lives and benefit from the knowledge and perspectives offered by books.
