Visakhapatnam: GITAM Hospital at Rushikonda, Visakhapatnam has secured official approval from the Jeevandan organ donation initiative to perform kidney transplantations from both living and deceased donors. The authorisation marks a vital milestone in expanding access to advanced, life-saving organ transplant care for patients across the region, informed Karteek, head of GIMSR (Operations). The transplant programme operates under a multidisciplinary model, uniting experienced senior consultants and specialised staff across nephrology, urology and transplant surgery, anaesthesiology, critical care, radiology, and laboratory medicine. Together, the team provides coordinated, patient-centric care across every stage of the transplantation process, adhering strictly to statutory guidelines, Jeevandan protocols, and national organ transplant regulations.
