State Auditor: $1.09 million recovered in fiscal year 2026Mississippi State Auditor Shad White says his office recovered more than $1.09 million in taxpayer money during fiscal year 2026 and returned those funds to the appropriate agencies. Most notably this year, the auditor’s office has issued more than $96 million in repayment demands tied to the Mississippi Department of Human Services welfare scandal. The report says only $18,000 was recovered by the attorney general’s office over the past year. Outside of the welfare cases, the auditor says nearly $15.8 million remains outstanding in 103 separate cases, with no action taken in 95 of them. Under Mississippi law, the auditor must publish the exceptions report each August.
