TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Food Affairs Zulkifli Hasan said the government is encouraging the use of pyrolysis technology to complement waste-to-energy (WtE) plants in accelerating national waste management. Hasan noted the capacity of WtE plants currently being developed cannot process all generated waste, necessitating alternative processing technologies capable of converting waste into energy. However, he pointed out the facilities are projected to handle only around 22 percent of national waste generation, underscoring the need for complementary processing technologies. Therefore, the government is championing the use of pyrolysis technology in order convert waste accumulated in landfills into a renewable fuel equivalent to diesel. The broader adoption of the technology is projected to help address around 20 percent of the national waste problem.
