The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to reunite family members and loved ones with individuals whose remains were stored at South Chicago Chapel. The Medical Examiner’s Office said it will contact family members to make final arrangements after their loved one has been identified. Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office investigators and forensic pathologists have been at the Chicago funeral home since Thursday afternoon. “The team has found more than 50 decedents in various states of decomposition at this time,” the Medical Examiner’s Office said in its initial statement. State and city officials notified Medical Examiner’s Office personnel about the bodies being improperly stored at the funeral home.
