For much of the day, cattle futures were mixed to lower, even as US stock markets firmed and the labour news tempered expectations of an interest rate hike from the Federal Reserve next month.
However, by the end of the session, technical buying and some signs of short-covering sent cattle futures rising, market analysts said.
CME August live cattle futures settled up 0.475 cent on Friday at 231.700 cents per pound, while most-active October futures ended 0.075 cent higher at 225.275 cents a pound.
CME August feeder cattle futures rose 3.600 cents to 351.650 cents per pound.
