When Frederick Richard entered the second of two days of competition at the men’s U.S. Championships in Phoenix on Saturday, he confidently steeled himself for the main rival among the 40-plus competitors – himself. “It’s not really a competition of me versus someone else. Looking ahead to the World Championships in Rotterdam in October, Richard said he needs to better his performances for the global field. “I want to prove what is working by winning, and then give the secrets that I’m learning and the small tidbits or whatever throughout the competition or in training. But winning is first to prove that it’s working.”
