Danila Leykin was more than happy to meet his three main targets en route to his top-three all-around finish at the men’s U.S. Championships that ended Saturday in Phoenix. “We hit the important events,” said the 19-year-old Leykin, who finished third overall, after gold medalist Frederick Richard and silver medalist Shane Wiskus, in the two-day competition. “It’s pretty important in gymnastics to be able to regroup,” said Leykin, who placed fourth all-around and claimed three medals at last year’s Junior World Championships in Manila. Subsequently named to the U.S. team for the World Championships in Rotterdam in October, Leykin said he is coming to terms with the fact that he is among the best. “It’s a little more real in the sense that all these dreams are slowly becoming a reality.
