Washington, DC [US], August 9 (ANI): FBI Director Kash Patel is planning to travel to Russia in mid-October amid ongoing geopolitical tensions between Washington and Moscow regarding the war in Ukraine, Politico reported, characterising the potential trip by the intelligence chief as "unusual and sensitive".
Responding to the development, Russian state-aligned publication Moskovsky Komsomolets commented that the FBI director should bring tangible offerings if seeking assistance.
Citing US officials familiar with Patel's itinerary, Politico confirmed that Patel is scheduled to visit Russia on October 14-15, with planned stops in Moscow followed by St Petersburg.
It remains unconfirmed whether Patel will hold discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin or senior Kremlin officials, and specific details regarding the official agenda remain undisclosed.
Robert Mueller stands as the last known FBI director to have conducted an official visit to Russia in 2013.
