A 12-year-old boy carrying holy water as part of a Kanwar Yatra pilgrimage died on Sunday night after falling from a moving tractor-trolley and being crushed under its wheels in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly district, local police confirmed. The victim was traveling alongside a group of pilgrims (Kanwariyas) who were carrying Gangajal (holy water from the Ganges River) toward Pilibhit district when the incident occurred. According to officials, the boy reportedly lost his balance while the vehicle was in motion and slipped off the edge of the trolley. The annual Kanwar Yatra sees thousands of devotees traveling long distances on foot or in open, improvised vehicles across North India. The accident highlights ongoing concerns regarding transport safety and overcrowded vehicles during peak religious processions along major state highways.
