The North Platte public schools carried $7,000 worth of debts from unpaid school lunches — until last week, that is. Thanks to a $10,000 donation from Farm Credit Services of America, all student meal debt from the previous school year has been paid in full, the North Platte Public Schools Foundation announced Thursday. Farm Credit’s donation allows every family to begin school with no lunch debt, said Terri Burchell, Executive Director of the North Platte Public Schools Foundation. Johna Jablonski, regional vice president of customer experience in FCSAmerica’s North Platte office, said the company is proud to make the donation to North Platte Public Schools through the North Platte Public Schools Foundation. If a student’s lunch account carries a negative balance, he or she continues to receive a nutritious lunch, not an alternate meal.
