From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? The Philadelphia Mayor’s Office of Black Male Engagement held its first State of Opportunity for African American Males and Allies summit on Saturday, bringing together Black men and boys for a day centered on resources, mentorship and opportunity. Abu Edwards, OBME director, said conversations about the challenges Black men face led to the summit’s creation. “People were just talking about the issues impacting Black men, and then folks were talking about being just disconnected from opportunities,” he said. The event was the first of its kind for the office established in 2016 under previous Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney.
