I feel badly that Charles Todorich is distressed because the Telegram edited his guest column on tolerance (July 12), which he feels “undermines the whole premise of my column.” In my opinion, there are other aspects of his column that didn’t pass muster and weren’t caught by the editor. In the op-ed, Mr. Todorich attributes this quote to Aristotle: “Tolerance is the last virtue of a dying society.” There is another philosopher, whose views on tolerance are put into practice more frequently by the liberal and supposedly secular among us than they are by the faux-Christians and “empathy is toxic” crowd currently propping up the ruthless Trump regime. Curiously, Mr. Todorich’s column failed to even mention him.
