BY KARISSA MILLERThe Iredell County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved five legislative goals during last week’s meeting, renewing its push for tools to manage rapid growth, reduce county expenses and increase education funding.
The proposals, which will be submitted to the N.C. Association of County Commissioners, mirror the board’s priorities from last year after several requests failed to gain traction during the 2025 legislative session.
Commissioners said the current limit of 200 beds was established decades ago and no longer reflects North Carolina’s population growth.
Commissioners said administrative costs should come from the state’s remaining share of lottery proceeds rather than reducing education funding.
The county will submit the board’s legislative priorities to the N.C. Association of County Commissioners for consideration as part of the organization’s statewide legislative agenda.
