“Given the tight supply situation, fertilisers expected to be used in November are already being utilised --Bangladesh’s fertiliser supply is entering a period of uncertainty,” said Riaz Uddin Ahmed, executive secretary of the Bangladesh Fertiliser Association. The government has not yet issued the procurement circular for non-urea fertilisers such as TSP, DAP and Muriate of Potash (MOP), according to Riaz. TSP stock is below the required 4 lakh tonne safe level at 3.53 lakh tonne, while MOP stock of 1.96 lakh tonne also misses the safety threshold of 3 lakh tonne. Reserves of urea are currently above the safety threshold of 5 lakh tonne: 5.85 lakh tonnes. Shahidar Rahman Mondal, 60, a farmer from Chilmari upazila of Kurigram, said they were receiving less than 20 percent of the requisite TSP fertiliser.
