Economic viability, environmental impact and the long‑term interests of the people must be given the highest priority.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman yesterday said the government will place before parliament a 10‑year plan for the energy and power sectors aimed at ensuring reliable electricity and gas supplies for schools, colleges, hospitals, industries, households and transport.
Speaking to reporters, the premier emphasised efficient use of existing energy infrastructure, transparency and accountability in project management, regular maintenance, and a long‑term integrated plan to secure the country’s energy future.
Economic viability, environmental impact and the long‑term interests of the people must be given the highest priority in power generation and large‑scale infrastructure.”
He highlighted the importance of integrated development of power, energy, deep-sea port and industrial infrastructure centring Matarbari, saying their planned utilisation would strengthen energy security, accelerate industrialisation and boost economic activity.
