JUST IN: FG Deploys 40 Coastal Highway Guards to Secure Lagos-Calabar RoadThe Federal Government has inaugurated a 40-member Coastal Highway Guards to protect the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and improve safety along the strategic corridor. Works Minister, Senator David Umahi, said the uniformed personnel, led operationally by retired Major General Adekunle Shodunke, have been deployed to provide round-the-clock surveillance and support motorists. The guards are expected to:Protect critical highway infrastructure from vandalism and theftAssist motorists and respond to road-related emergenciesMonitor the corridor for security threats and suspicious activitiesHelp regulate traffic and curb unauthorised commercial activitiesRestrict the movement of tricycles and commercial motorcycles on designated sectionsWork with the police, other security agencies and emergency respondersUmahi urged communities along the corridor to see the guards as partners rather than agents of intimidation, stressing that their mission is to keep the highway safe, orderly and protected. The government says the new corps has already commenced patrols on active sections of the highway with operational vehicles and specialised equipment.
