Nasarawa’s Monthly Allocation Jumps From ₦4.5bn to ₦16bn After Subsidy Removal — Gov SuleNasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said the state’s monthly federal allocation has increased significantly from about ₦4.5 billion before the removal of the petrol subsidy to roughly ₦16 billion currently. Sule attributed the increase to economic reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the reforms had made more resources available to state governments for development projects. The governor spoke on Saturday in Lafia, while receiving journalists and members of the presidential media team who were in the state to inspect federal and state government projects. According to Sule, the removal of the petrol subsidy was a difficult decision that required political courage, stressing that Tinubu “took the bullets” on behalf of state governors by implementing the policy. Sule’s claim highlights one of the major arguments advanced by supporters of the subsidy removal: that although the policy increased economic pressure on households, it also significantly increased federally distributed revenues available to the three tiers of government.
