Police are investigating the discovery of a firearm and ammunition which were found on Saturday August 8, 2026 about 00:30hrs, during an intelligence-led operation at Kwakwani Park, Airstrip, Upper Berbice River. Preliminary investigations revealed that ranks, acting on information received, proceeded to an unfinished and unoccupied concrete structure, where a search was conducted. During the search, a black plastic bag containing one silver Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol fitted with a magazine containing one live 9mm round of ammunition, was found. The firearm, magazine and ammunition were escorted to the Kwakwani Police Station, where they were lodged pending examination. Investigations continue.
