One worker was killed and five others injured after a rock fell inside a tunnel at Egypt’s Sukari gold mine in the Eastern Desert, the Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ministry said on Sunday. The injured workers were taken to the One-Day Surgeries Hospital in Marsa Alam, where their conditions were reported to be stable, according to preliminary medical reports. Badawi also instructed officials to ensure the injured receive full medical care and that their conditions be monitored continuously. Work in the underground section has been temporarily suspended pending completion of the necessary procedures and verification that all safety requirements are in place before operations resume. The ministry said the safety and wellbeing of workers remained its top priority and that it was closely monitoring developments and the condition of the injured.
