On Saturday, July 11, the centre received a total of 6,475 contacts, including 2,328 calls made to the 999 emergency number.
Concerns Over Misuse of 999Despite the high volume of genuine emergencies, the force said it continues to receive a significant number of calls that should not be made via 999.
Officers said the emergency number should only be used when a crime is in progress or there is an immediate danger to life.
Emergency Lines Must Remain AvailablePolice warned that call handlers can only deal with matters that require a police response and said misuse of the emergency number places additional pressure on already stretched resources.
